Rashiq Fataar contributes to Atlantis Magazine on St George’s Mall

Our Future Cities CEO Rashiq Fataar has contributed an article to the latest edition of Atlantis Magazine, published under the theme Agency, Space, Society.

Entitled Civicness and Agency: Everyday Life on Cape Town’s Pedestrianised St George’s Mall, the article draws on OFC’s multi-year research into the corridor. Through field observation, urban analysis and more than 850 photographs, it explores how the Mall is shaped not only by planning and design, but by the everyday practices of traders, commuters, workers and visitors.

The article reflects on what St George’s Mall reveals about agency, stewardship and the continued making of public space in South African cities.
